 Demarrage studio is an architecture  practice founded by Nikolas Makrygiannis in 2020. The studio focuses on vital elements of prime architectural implementations which have to do with sustainability, accessibility and research. 

 What could be described as a pillar of the architectural language of the studio is the “truth” that simple industrial elements can reveal when applied to domestic spaces apart from commercial ones. This starts from the realisation that the industry imposes constructing practises that serve a narrative of “distilled” ideas communicated through marketing, instead  of simplifying perceptions about buildings and built environment in general. As a consequence traditional practises that were ecological to their core and ensured longevity and sustainability have been aborted in favour of faster and easier methods that are applied on larger or smaller scale. 

  We believe an approach that takes into consideration past methods that have withstanded over centuries should be combined with modern technology to ensure optimum results in the fragile environment that we live in, ensuring that the best of both worlds is brought to the fore. Building techniques that have been used in past years such as rammed earth, natural stones, timber with mud etc. are being reintroduced to the architectural field and that is something we aim to apply to our works as well. Principles that have to do with passive cooling, ventilation and insulation combined with natural materials can produce astonishing results that are also very cost effective even in the most demanding urban conditions. 

 The afore mentioned principles when combined produce architecture that also has a social awareness and reach because it becomes affordable to a wider audience and simplify the building logic.  All of these ideas and a deep understanding of  the simplicity and  substance that industrial materials have has formatted our aesthetics especially in the interior spaces where principles such as modular design, affordability and reuse have become a vital design language that is ever evolving. An extra love and caring for the field of product design as an integral part of the broader field of architecture has led to a series of experiments that in their turn gave birth to a series of furniture that is constantly enriched.  Again affordable materials and experimentation are the key elements  that drive this quest for exploring how living formulates materials and objects in general.
