PET MEDICAL CARE

A vet’s office – micro clinic created in an unconditional space. A former warehouse that had to be transformed into a working space with standard specifications within a reasonable budget in order to become a fully functional space . The most important disadvantage of the location of the store was the fact that it is located in a semi – ground floor level and that the staircase of the building covered almost half of the facade. In order to manipulate light in the best possible way a basic idea had to be implemented so its constant circulation was granted . This meant that all the areas including the ones on the back side needed to have visibility and transparency in a way . The idea was that by creating transparent and translucent partitions the space would have adequate visibility throughout all the rooms. Each metal partition was divided into equal parts creating a pleasant and proportionate symmetry . The metal frames that enclose the glass surfaces start from the floor level and end up in the ceiling creating large openings hence allowing for the light to circulate . In the waiting room the glass surfaces are have a milky effect (transparent ) so that privacy is granted inside the examination and surgery room . In all the other rooms apart from the kitchenette where polycarbonate panels were used the glass surfaces are translucent allowing a better visual connection between the rooms.
In terms of custom made furniture a bench with a bolted back that follows its limits was created for the waiting area from mdf wood. . This allowed for a simple geometry to emerge using rectangular arrays of wooden panels .Mdf being an affordable solution in the wood variety is also very easy to paint giving the final item a sense of plastic texture. A coffee table with characteristic magazine cases on two sides was designed in order to help the customers to deploy their stuff while waiting . The construction is dismantlable and is comprised of 4 parts in total .White cupboards and closets were constructed on two sides of the examination and surgery room designed in a very simple and minimal manner . The visually prevalent materials are iron , glass and wood and the hues that are painted in distinguish and emphasize their limits inside the space. A pleasant and yet compliant with the function of the space colour range was chosen for the walls and ceilings of the rooms creating a serene and friendly atmosphere.
An important factor for the proper function of the space and the continuous circulation of light was the study that concerned it. Because of the limited height of the ceiling no further diminishment could be done so metal perforated channels were deployed on the ceiling throughout the entire space creating routes of light. The result was a very nice rectangular perspective effect that glowed from the linear fluorescent lamps .This solution of perforated hanging channels also allowed for the cables to be concealed in a proper way. In the examination and surgery rooms rectangular panels were screwed in the ceiling because the demand in light and its distribution was different .The whole network of this construction in addition to the visible ventilation and cooling system with its pipes creates an industrial feel making the space look partly like a machine which metaphorically applies in a way .
In the outdoor area in order to make the facade look more friendly and adjust it to the interior design language a bench and a case for the a/c exterior unit were created . The bench is a metal frame with a wooden surface and the a/c case is made entirely from metal beams . Both of them have a minimal aesthetic and create a light composition that sits nicely on one side of the facade.
