Souliou power flat

A tiny apartment that needed to be remodeled and redesigned in an ergonomic way so that its full potential was maximized . A previous renovation of the flat was implemented in such a way that the already small spaces looked even smaller because of the wrong scale especially regarding the furnishing . Starting off from a point where the budget was limited and the main goal being that the space had to have a feeling of adequacy and unity , some important steps were taken.
A half size wall was demolished in order to host a large opening ( half window , half steady frame with milky glass) and a concrete floor that covered the entire space was implemented in order to make it appear unified . The window and door frames that were positioned in the facade had to be changed because of their thick profiles and chunky appearance. They were replaced by a new iron door and a window-door construction with slim profiles which maximize the visibility towards the outside areas and allow for more natural light to infuse the space . The same logic was implemented in the bathroom area where the entrance door and the shower divider were made of metal frames and armed glass in order to maintain a warm flow of natural light.
The most substantial changes were made in the bedroom – living room which is where the entrance of the flat is situated. A metallic construction was designed from scratch so that the limited space was used effectively. The metal construction includes a frame that incorporates an elevated bed with a ladder and a working desk and reserves a space for a furniture that works as a couch-hidden storage .Above this custom made construction there is a metal frame that acts as a back for it and has a weave of plastic string with a characteristic red color. Another metal construction that acts as a closet is situated next to the big opening of the door-window frame and sits above the floor allowing for the heat that comes from the radiator above it to flow freely. It is made from an square iron rod , a beam and panels of armed glass that give it a characteristic transparent feel.
In the kitchen area a new set of furniture was designed and included cupboards, drawers and some storage spaces below the sink . A bold cobalt blue color was chosen in order to brighten the construction, make it stand out and render it more alluring. A ceramic 10×10 tiling was implemented where necessary to complete the color palette .The rest of the space was left free and only two pieces of furniture which were designed to meet the needs of the restricted room were carefully positioned in it. As a result two sleek and slender silhouettes emerged which include an aluminum bench and an iron table with two trays both displaying a Bauhaus-inspired style .
The colors that were chosen for the interiors are calm and slightly faded with have blue, grey and green hues. Moving from one room to the next creates a natural flow and the distinct qualities of light and atmosphere occur effortlessly .
On the picturesque terrace a sunshade has been created resembling the common ” pergola ” with its aesthetics ,bearing a vivid blue color awning that slides in one direction covering the area around the entrance. Another awning that covers the window-door opening of the bedroom has been created with a retro aesthetic that resembles the ones used in old shops. A dark vivid brown color covering the walls of the terrace completes the color palette and creates a playful contrast with the awnings . .
